It was once the site of a prominent Roman settlement and the place where King Richard III’s remains were uncovered in The Grey Friars Car Park in 2012 – if this is something of interest, you can visit the King Richard III Visitor Centre to hear the story of the discovery, exhumation, and reburial of his remains.

The University of Leicester
The University of Leicester is a public research university, it was founded in 1921 and has over 23,000 students. It is well-known for the invention of genetic fingerprinting and for partially funding the discovery and identification of King Richard III in 2012.
The main campus is located just south of the city and accessible in 30 minutes on foot, 16 minutes via public transport, or a 10 minute cycle. The University of Leicester has an array of student facilities including 2 sports centres with swimming pools, gyms, and regular fitness classes.
De Montfort University
Established in 1992, De Montfort University is a popular choice for students.
De Montfort University is spread over 10 campuses in Leicester, Lincoln, Milton Keynes, and Bedford – students are located on one campus for the duration of their chosen course.
Like the University of Leicester, De Montfort University offers a variety of courses for students to choose from but is known to specialise in art and design and business and law. If a student is keen to study art and design, they can pick from over 20 subject areas and get creative in a range of high-end spaces and workshops.
